Lancashire to Wood Street
The leave-the-hotel checklist: dress, a table enquiry, and the way back
The useful leave-the-hotel check for a night at INK Bar is three decisions made in the room: what you are wearing, whether a table has been asked about, and how you get back to Lancashire. The club is at 78-82 Wood Street, Liverpool L1 4DQ, in Ropewalks, an RnB and house nightclub with cocktails, stylish surroundings and table service. The tagline on its own pages is "Why waste your weekend".
You might be leaving a room in Preston, Blackpool, Lancaster, the Ribble Valley, Lytham St Annes, Southport or Ormskirk. The town changes the railway. It does not change the three checks. Do them before the door of the hotel shuts, while you can still go back upstairs for different shoes or send a message that gets a reply.
Prices you may have seen, including table packages from £250 and a 25 per cent Sunday line, are archive text from the venue's old pages. The checklist uses them as questions to ask, not as figures to spend. The live timetable, similarly, is something you open. Last-train times belong on the live board.
Dress, checked against the archived standard
Stand in the outfit you intend to wear at the door, in the hotel, with the lights on. The archived pages asked for smart and stylish, clean and classy. They ruled out daywear, casual clothes, sportswear, caps and snapbacks. Security has the final say, and management may refuse admission. If the outfit would have been right for a daytime train and wrong for that list, change now.
Look at shoes, headwear and the top layer separately. A smart jacket over sportswear still reads as sportswear once the jacket comes off in a warm room. A cap "for the walk to the station" is how snapbacks reach Wood Street. Leave both in the room. A coat is allowed to be practical. The clothes that remain when the coat is on the hook should already pass.
Do this for the whole group if you can, or make each person send a plain description. Hosts who book a table and skip this step are the ones who lose a friend at the door after an hour from Preston. The homepage shows you the room you are dressing for. Match it, using the club's own old dress language, and ask the venue if a particular item worries you.
The table enquiry, sent while you can still change it
If you want to sit together, send one enquiry before you travel. For a table or booth, the archived VIP page described your own table or a private booth, packages from £250, three house mixers with a bottle, a deposit and the balance on arrival. Say if the night is a special occasion. Then ask what the venue actually requires now. The £250 line is the old page, and the reply is the booking.
If you are 20 or more, or you want a private bar, use the hire language instead. The Terrace was the front space, mixed seating and standing, private bar, 20 to 50 people, described without a hire fee against a returnable deposit and a minimum spend. The Parlour was the rear seated area of four adjacent tables. Pick one, and say the headcount. The VIP page and the private hire page are the archived sources.
Send it to info@inkbarliverpool.co.uk or by phone or WhatsApp on +44 7808 834584. Include a booking name everyone knows, a realistic arrival from Lime Street, and a mobile that will be answered on the train. Wait for the reply before the group chat treats the table as fact. A deposit you have not been asked for is not a reservation.
The way back, read from a live board
Open the live timetable for the return to the station you need, on the date you are going. Preston has direct trains to Liverpool Lime Street, commonly about an hour in the familiar pattern, which tells you the shape of the ride and not the time of the last one. Southport and Ormskirk have Merseyrail links towards Liverpool. Blackpool, Lancaster, the Ribble Valley and Lytham St Annes may add another leg. Travellers should check the live board. A last-train time has to come from that board.
Write the cut-off in the same note as the table reply. Include the time to get from Wood Street back to the station, on foot or by taxi, because leaving the club at the departure time means missing the train. Name the person who will watch that cut-off. If the board is wrong for the night you want, book a taxi with a real operator or leave earlier. A guessed service is not a plan.
Sunday and Saturday are different diagrams, and engineering work appears on weeks that otherwise look normal. Check on the day, even if you looked last week. The tickets page will not carry the railway. Keep the rail app, or a screenshot of the return you are willing to catch, somewhere the whole group can see it before they reach the door.
What to save before the hotel door shuts
Save four things where you can find them without a signal hunt on Ropewalks. The venue email, info@inkbarliverpool.co.uk. The phone and WhatsApp number, +44 7808 834584. The booking name, if you have one. The return you have actually chosen, or the taxi firm you have actually booked. Add the address, 78-82 Wood Street, Liverpool L1 4DQ, so a driver is not working from "the RnB place".
Save the dress reminder in the same note if the group is forgetful: smart and stylish, no sportswear, no caps. It feels redundant until someone buys a snapback on the way to the station. The events page is worth opening once, so you have seen that the original listings text was not restored and will not function as a promise of who is playing.
If a discount card or a Sunday percentage has come up in the chat, park it. INK Gold's archived page described cards handed out by management, and a then-current 25 per cent Sunday offer on selected drinks. That is old copy. Do not subtract it from your cash plan unless the venue has said it still applies to you. The same goes for any Mile High bottle plan: six bottles and pre-booking were the archived minimum shape, and they need their own confirmed reply.
Read this out before you leave
A checklist works when someone reads it aloud and other people answer. Do that in the hotel corridor, not in a whisper on the platform. The items below are the leave-the-hotel version of the night, in the order they usually go wrong when they are skipped.
- Change into the smart outfit in the room, and leave caps, snapbacks, daywear and sportswear behind.
- Send one table or hire enquiry with your numbers, the booking name, and a line if the night is a special occasion.
- Treat £250, the Terrace's old minimum spend, and any 25 per cent Gold line as archive, and wait for the venue's current answer.
- Check the live return from Liverpool to your Lancashire station, and agree a latest leaving time that includes the trip back to Lime Street.
- Save info@inkbarliverpool.co.uk, +44 7808 834584, the Wood Street address, and the meeting point, and make sure more than one person can open that note.
If any line produces a silence, stay in the hotel until it is answered. A missing shoe, an unsent enquiry and an unchecked timetable are all cheaper to fix upstairs than they are on Wood Street. The group can still have the weekend the tagline is selling. They will have it more reliably if the corridor conversation is blunt.
Then leave for Lime Street with the cut-off already written down.
Frequently asked questions
What are the three checks before we leave?
Dress, a table or hire enquiry if you want to sit together, and the way back to Lancashire. Do all three in the hotel. The club is on Wood Street in Liverpool city centre, and the archived dress code is smart and stylish, without sportswear, daywear, caps or snapbacks.
Which contact do we use for a table?
Email info@inkbarliverpool.co.uk or phone or WhatsApp +44 7808 834584. Include the date, headcount and booking name. The archived VIP page described a deposit and the balance on arrival, so ask what the venue wants now rather than sending an old figure.
How should we treat the old prices?
Treat them as archive text from the venue's own pages, including table packages from £250 and the old INK Gold percentage. Confirm anything you will actually pay. Keep the live railway timetable separate, and check it yourself.
What if the return train is too early for the night we want?
Decide before you leave the hotel. Take an earlier exit from the club, book a taxi with a real operator, or change the plan. Read the live timetable on the day, and do not invent a later service to make the evening fit.
